Chattering Teeth

Sculpture/ Fiber / Crochet
2013
Materials
Acrylic Yarn (three colors), cotton fabric & fiber fill. It has to be arranged and fluffed a bit when installed.
Description
There is something uncanny about this mechanical toy transformed into a handmade, soft, non-functioning, large object. It is at once unassuming in its pillow-like deflation and unsettling with its disembodied jaw and strong baring of teeth; a mute growl. I enjoyed figuring out how to crochet each shape and stitch them into the whole while simultaneously exploring the high/low, art/craft, funny/creepy, and masculine/feminine aspects of the piece. Currently I am teaching myself basic electronics and robotics to add another dimension to work like this, thus, furthering my exploration of such slippages in meaning and the spaces between duality thinking.
Exhibition History
