Erika Swinson, growing up an “Army Brat” and aspiring inventor, came up with creative ways to entertain herself and cope with always being the new kid in school. Her current work draws from these early experiences as the outsider, experimenting with dress, materials, identity, joking and learning different environments. Erika received her BFA in sculpture from the University of Georgia, and her MFA in new media from Penn State University. She is a writer and an interdisciplinary conceptual artist exhibiting in the United States, online, and abroad. Ever the devil's advocate, Erika's projects use mundane materials to tamper with the details of naturalized social systems, undermining the everyday to provoke thoughtful debate and transformative laughter.
